Offensive Strategy
Overview
From 2022 onwards our main play style will be dictated by the principles of hex. I would like to teach this by initially just working on spreading out and getting used to lots of short, quick passes, similar to how we usually play in taster sessions anyway before vert has been taught. Ideally freshers will just see it as the obvious/intuitive way of playing ultimate, without needing to know that it is a strategy called hex. Strategies such as vertical and horizontal stack will still be used, but should be thought of as tactics which can be deployed for specific situations rather than alternative options right off the bat. These specific situations are detailed below.
Vert stack should be used:
When we are struggling to find space due to effective switching by the opposition
In the end zone if we fail to score in flow
Indoors, probably most of the time
Horo should be used:
When wind is low but people are struggling to get free deep
When our cuts are getting messy and we need a bit more structure in our offense
